Mature driver discount in Kentucky?
I am 67 and live in Lexington. Will my insurance lower my rate if I take the mature driver course?
Hello Barbara, Great question. Kentucky allows insurance companies to offer a defensive driving / mature driver discount, and many carriers in the state apply it for drivers 55 and older for three years after completion. To activate it: - Email or upload your completion certificate to your insurer - Ask whether they offer the mature driver discount and the percentage (commonly 5-10 percent) - Mark the 3-year expiration on your calendar so you can re-take the course before it lapses Different carriers have slightly different rules, so it is worth calling two or three to compare. Can a CDL holder take this course?
I have a Kentucky CDL and just got a ticket in my personal car in Louisville. Am I allowed to take this defensive driving course?
Hello Frank, Thanks for asking — this is an important distinction. In Kentucky, CDL holders generally cannot use a traffic school or state traffic safety course to mask or dismiss a moving violation, even one received in a personal vehicle. A few things to confirm: - Call the Jefferson County District Court and ask about resolution options available specifically to CDL holders - The FMCSA requires CDL holders' violations to remain visible on the driving record regardless of state-level masking programs - You can still take the course voluntarily for safety value, but it will not dismiss the citation We can hold any enrollment until you confirm with the court.
