It depends on why you're taking the course. If you received a traffic ticket and want to keep it off your record, you'll need a traffic school or defensive driving course. If your insurer offers a discount for completing a safety course, that's a separate voluntary enrollment. If you're a new driver under 18, a drivers ed course covers the license requirements.
