I have a Texas CDL — am I eligible?
I drive a truck for a living and have a Texas CDL. Got a ticket in my own car in Dallas. Am I eligible for defensive driving?
Hello Hector, Important question. Texas law specifically excludes CDL holders from using defensive driving for ticket dismissal, even if the citation was received in a personal vehicle (Texas Transportation Code §543.106). What you can do instead: - Call the Dallas County court and ask about alternatives like deferred adjudication or a payment plan - The FMCSA also requires CDL holders' violations to remain visible regardless of state masking programs - You can still take the course voluntarily for safety value or potentially for an insurance discount, but it will not dismiss the citation We can hold any enrollment until you confirm with the court. Texas defensive driving 6 hours?
I am signing up for the Texas defensive driving course for a Houston ticket. Is it really 6 hours?
Hello Connor, Yes — the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requires defensive driving courses to be at least 6 hours of timed content. Our online Texas DD course meets that requirement. A few important points: - The 6 hours is timed actively — no fast-forwarding - You can split it across multiple sittings; progress saves automatically - The final exam is included in the 6-hour requirement - Texas allows one defensive driving completion every 12 months Once you pass, the certificate goes to the Harris County court the same business day.
