I took the course in Greenville. How long will the insurance discount apply in South Carolina?
Hello Bethany, South Carolina insurance carriers commonly offer a 5-10 percent discount on liability and collision premiums for three years after completion of an approved defensive driving course. To activate it: - Email or upload your completion certificate to your insurer - Ask for written confirmation of the percentage and effective date - Mark the 3-year expiration on your calendar to re-take the course before it lapses If your insurer does not offer a discount, shopping a couple of others often finds one that does. Hello Dwayne, Yes — the South Carolina ADTSP (also referred to as the 4-hour defensive driving course in some counties) is set at 4 hours by South Carolina regulations. Notes on the format: - The 4 hours is timed actively — you cannot fast-forward - Content covers South Carolina-specific traffic law, hazard perception, and impaired driving - Final exam is at the end and included in the 4-hour minimum The certificate transmits to the Charleston County court the same business day you pass.
