Hello Amber, Under Mississippi Code § 63-9-11, first-time traffic offenders can often elect defensive driving to avoid conviction on their public record: - You must request permission from the Southaven Municipal Court judge or clerk before paying the fine or on your court date - You must hold a valid non-commercial driver's license and have not used this statutory option within the past 3 years - Deliver your certificate of completion to the Southaven court clerk within the timeframe ordered by the judge.
